Created by the Province of Barcelona in 1913, the Theater Institute has over one hundred years of history as a center for teaching, creativity, research, conservation and promotion of heritage in the field of arts. During all these years has played a key role in the modernization of the Catalan scene. Since 2000, is headquartered in Montjuïc in Barcelona, and shares the space surrounding the plaza Margarida Xirgu with the Free Theater and the Flower Market. The mission of the Theater Institute is to be a platform dedicated to the cultivation and permanent renewal of the performing arts and especially the Catalan scene, updating and developing the functions of teaching, creation, research, conservation and promotion of heritage always with an innovative will. The Strategic Plan 2014-2017 establishes the vision of the Theater Institute nationally and internationally to position the institution as a recognized leader in teaching, research and dissemination of performing arts in Catalonia.
